In 2017 a pilot project was developed and initiated by members of the Red Dots to help control dog waste near Parlee Beach and surrounding walking trails. This ongoing project is funded by grants received from the NB Environmental Trust Fund.
The project is managed by local volunteers, and it provides free dog waste bags and waste collection containers that are conveniently located at various locations along beach walkway entrances and surrounding walking trails. The waste is collected, sorted, and placed by the roadside weekly for pick up by local waste management. This seasonal service operates from mid May to mid October.
Currently, ten stations located in Pointe du Chene and five station in Cap-Acadie have diverted an estimated 6000 pounds of dog waste from beach areas and trails every season.
